Introduced into the automotive industry in 1996, this is a seat belt retractor or a seat belt buckle that is equipped with only one electrical plug. TRIPLE STAGEThe dual-stage seat belt was introduced into the automotive industry around 2010. This setup includes two electrical plugs that are found on the seat belt unit. One plug is located on the retractor reel, and the other plug is located on the anchor pre-tensioner portion, which is usually bolted down in the pillar of the car. Note: some dual-stage seat belts may come with both plugs on the retractor reel. If you're ready to place a repair order for your dual stage seat belt please click here.
A triple-stage unit will have two plugs on the retractor reel, and one plug on the anchor pre-tensioner. These aren’t as popular as the single and dual plug units, but are gaining popularity with many automotive manufacturers.
